Comets Have Good Trip South
Mason girls lacrosse traveled to Walt
Disney World's Wide World of Sports to compete
during spring break and started off with a
quick win over Washington D.C.'s Connolly
School for the Holy Child 16-10. The
leading scorer from Mason was Jaime Swigart who
had 7 points on 5 goals and 2 assists.
Kristin Wood, Madi Gilmore and Jen Bieszczak
added 3 more points each as the Comets
continued their high scoring ways. Draws
were controlled by Jaime Swigart with 4 and
Adrianna Piontek and Swigart also led
the ground ball recovery with 4 each.
Stacie Denton had a solid game in goal
with 12 saves on 22 shots for a 55% save
percentage.

Game 2 of spring break
at Disney's Wide World of Sports showcased the top team in North
Carolina
against the Lady Comets
and Mason answered the call once again with a 17-10 win over Charlotte
Catholic.
The leading scorer for
Mason was Jaime Swigart again with 9 points on 5 goals and 4 assists.
Attackers Kristin Wood
and Sam Dunn were second in scoring with 3 points each. Mason
controlled play all over
the field with 6 players tied for the ground ball lead and the defense
had
a solid game
backed by Freshman Goalie Trista Kuehn who had an outstanding 60% save
percentage.

Against Illinois Powers
Mason 7 New Trier 6
On Saturday April 4th,
Mason hosted the defending Illinois State Champion, the New Trier
Trevians
and came away with a major upset defeating the Trevians 7-6 in
an exciting back and forth battle at
the Mason Mulitpurpose Complex.
Madi Gilmore led all Mason scorers with 5 points on 2 goals and
3
assists, followed by Kristin Wood (1 G, 1 A) and Jen Bieszczak (1G, 1A)
with two points each.
Draws were controlled by Jen Bieszczak with 4 and
ground balls by Jaime Swigart with 3.
Stacie Denton had a great game in
goal with 11 saves against 17 shots on goal. This was a
major milestone
for Mason who were soundly defeated in 2008 by New Trier.
Mason 10
Hinsdale Central 10
Mason hosted the
Hinsdale Central Red's on April 4th at the Mason Multipurpose Complex
and came
away with a 10-10 tie against the defending Illinois State
Runner Up. The lead changed hands 10 times
as it resembled more of a
track meet than a girls lacrosse game. Jaime Swigart dominated the
scoring
with 6 points on 5 goals and 1 assist and she also posted 5 draw
controls to lead that category. Madi
Gilmore was second in scoring with
4 points on 1 goal and 3 assists, and Kristy Dezenzo (2G) and
Adrianna Piontek (1 G, 1 A) had 2 points each. Adrianna Piontek also led ground
balls with 5.
Trista Kuehn had a solid game in goal with 10 saves on 20
shots on goal.
Mason 11 Anderson 6
Mason's home opener was
held on April 2nd against the defending Club Division State Champion
Anderson Lady Orange and Mason came away with the victory 11-6. Mason
came out of the gates
fired up and led early 7-1 but Anderson battled
back before Mason reasserted themselves late in the
second half. Jaime Swigart (4 goals) and Kristin Wood (2 G, 2A) led all scorers for Mason
with 4 points
each. Jaime Swigart once again led in draw controls with
6 and Adrianna Piontek continued her
dominance of ground
balls with 4.
Comets Split Double
Header in Columbus
Mason 8 Thomas
Worthington 10
Mason travelled to
Thomas Worthington in Columbus on March 28th and lost in a hard fought
game 10-8.
Thomas Worthington is the oldest girls lacrosse program in
the state, dating back to 1974 and is annually
in the top 5 in the State
of Ohio. The game was a close back and forth game with the host
Cardinals having
to execute a stall with 7 minutes to go to hold on to
the lead and win. Jaime Swigart led all Mason scorers
with 4 points on
3 goals and 1 assist and Jamie Lawson, Samantha Dunn, and Alli Cryder
tied for second
with 2 points each. Draw's were controlled by Jamie Swigart
who had 6 and ground balls were secured
by Chloe Colton who had

Mason 13 Kilbourne 9
Mason bounced back in
the second game in Columbus, beating Worthington Kilbourne 13-9.
Madi
Gilmore led all scorers with 6 points on 2 goals and 4 assists and Jaime
Swigart was
second with 5 points on 4 goals and 1 assist. Jamie Lawson
led draw controls with 5 and
Adrianna Piontek led ground balls with 8.
Mason 10 Mariemont 12
Mason opened its season
away against DII power Mariemont and ran into a hot goaltender
in Adele Bruggeman of Mariemont who turned away 67% of the shots Mason put on
goal.
In the end Mason lost 10-12. Kristin Wood led all scorers with 4
points on 2 goals and 2 assists
and Jaime Swigart was second with 3
goals. Jaime Swigart also let draw controls with 6
and Team Captain
Adrianna Piontek led ground balls with 5.
